I'm on the fence in regards to owning precious metals as a means to preserve ones wealth simply because I prefer investing - putting 5% in VGPMX (Vanguard Precious Metals) would be more worthwhile in my opinion. Precious metals have a hard time keeping up with inflation. In the long term they don't produce as good returns as say stocks or bonds.
