That is very useful information. It seems the miners are holding out on SegWit and the odds of them giving in doesnt seem likely. I wonder how this does affect the long term potential...do other miners step in and take their place?

It is all very interesting and, perhaps, the reason BTC has basically traded in a channel the last couple months.

It's hard to say really. It's such a dynamic position right now which is why I'm trying to monitor it closely.

In the long, long term I can't see Bitcoin surviving except as a store of value and the volatility will have to drop massively for that to ever happen

yeap it can only survive as a store of value. I am very puzzled as to how many prominent figures in the bitcoin world don't see this. I am not sure it's volatility has to drop "massively" for that though - as long as it's value is still rising in the longterm (long term trend remains intact)

This is very useful information. Its going to be very interesting !!!

I've said it before and I say it again: This horizontal inflation will let the prices go sour.

Care to expand on this? Sounds like an interesting point

I wrote an article about it: Bitcoin may not inflate vertically, but thanks to artificial intelligence the inflation might happen horizontally

Here is the conclusion:

... If you now combine the above elements

  • of the possibility for forkings generally
  • of marginal profits when creating a new crypto currency
  • of AI systems capable of millions of transactions per second
  • of the necessity for future forkings

... you end up with the conclusion that at one point - since you can make a profit with it - there will be a horizontal inflation of digital currencies and that means, Bitcoin too will inflate. It's just not going to be in the classic way. The result on the other hand will be the same as always: The stored value in crypto currencies will thin out over time.

I will follow you now.

Thank you for this post. It's really helpful in understanding what causes the fluctuation of the BTC price and value.
