Bitfinex currently under heavy DDOS - Degraded Performance
Bitfinex is under heavy DDOS attack, trading and web performance have been degraded and for some regions even halted.
It's not the first time Bitfinex have faced such issues. It was just few days back when Bitfinex faced heavy loads and DDOS attacks. For details, read the following.
Although, it's nothing new for Exchanges and other Cryptographic businesses but it's still a concern as it locks out the users from using the service. And with Exchanges it gets even worse considering the money and trades being live.
Bitfinex have been driving some serious amount of liquidity to some of the major market pairs and in a way it was expected. I wouldn't say that it's a threat, it could be just a genuine demand. I mean why won't it be? Just look at the graphs, it's been a crazy week for Cryptos with Ethereum crossing the $600, Monero $300, Litecoin $300 Zcash $350, DASH $800 mark for the first time. It's raining money on the Crypto world.
Here's a little detail on the Bitfinex today's market performance for some of the major pairs:

I just hope that it gets solved soon or I am dead :p I had some problems with Bittrex on the verification issues so I had to transfer my portfolio to Bitfinex. Although, it's not wise to keep it on an exchange but since I am not a hodler, that's the only option I have.
I am just messing with you. All your funds are safe. After the hack of Bitfinex, they only keep a minimal amount on your exchange the rest goes to cold storage. So, I believe funds should be safe. Although, not quite sure of the state of their cold storage, just guessing. :)
Ah this is beautiful. We hosts some Nature contests that usually involves Greenery. May be you should check em out @Tpot and see if you can participate..
I've never heard of anybody until now using bitfinex and apparently it's the biggest exchange. That alone is worrying to me, among many red flags.
It definitely is a red flag. In May 2015, 1500 bitcoins were stolen during a hack. In 2016, Bitfinex was again subject to hack. This time, 19,756 bitcoin worth $72 million was stolen from the company's customer's accounts. But none of this stopped Bitfinex from thriving.
It's a serious business market with wonderful features such as OTC, Margin, lending and borrowing etc. Fee's are half as compared to bittrex. Considering that there are only few market pairs available it still continues to attract users, had it more pairs would have easily been the No. 1 Exchange.
But there's also an answer for "why it's driving so much business". The power of affiliate marketing.
That's sick. Direct hits are almost equal to referral hits. That doesn't even leave a room for Bitfinex to keep a fat Marketing Dept.
Your comment added an extra flavor to this post and probably what was missing. I am usually in hurry to just post and run away. Also, part of a reason is that I like to keep it short and somewhat know that no one reads it anyway. Thanks :)
i am using it. However, it prevents US ip from any trading now.
There's a red flag right there.
