What is LSK coin? Information, Price & Outlook for Lisk
What is LSK?
LSK is the token for the Lisk decentralised blockchain. Lisk makes it easy for developers to build and deploy blockchain applications by using JavaScript.
Pros:
- It uses Javascript making Lisk very accessible for developers.
- Lisk offers true sidechains, allowing developers to build dApps on their own blockchain - so no mainchain clutter.
- Lisk has recently relaunched with a Javascript SDK, a command line interface and rebranded website making everything more accessible.
- The team are determined to make blockchain technology a user friendly experience, which could make Lisk attractive to developers.
Cons:
- Many other blockchain platforms offer multiple programming languages to build dApps so while Javascript makes it accessible, it’s not an advantage in the market anymore.
- According to some developers, DPOS doesn't really work well currently. It encourages groups to take over the delegate positions, negating the "proof-of-stake" part for voters.
- Fees, voting and registering a second passphrase are costly but fees are likely to be balanced.

Comparison:
- This is a general comparison only: Lisk is similar to Ethereum in that it is a blockchain platform for developers to build dApps on. The key difference is that Lisk is coded in Javascript making it more accessible than Ethereum's Solidity.
Competitors:
- NEO
- STRAT
- EOS
- NULS
- Qtum

- May 2018, add new fee and address system modularisation.
- July 2018, establish dApp registration and custom tokens within system.
- October 2018, to add sidechain with deposit and a decentralized exchange.
- November 2018, to add dApp management interfaces as part of blockchain application platform.
Supply:
- Circulating Supply: 102,600,130 LSK
- Total Supply: 118,816,776 LSK
- In 2018, 3 LSK per block mined.
- In 2019, 2 LSK per block mined.
- By 2020 there will be an estimated total supply of 145m LSK.
Function:
- Lisk is a decentralized network. It uses a Delegated Proof of Stake like EOS. This allows every LSK holder to vote for mainchain delegates which are securing the network.
- There are a maximum of 101 active mainchain delegates, these can earn block generation rewards.
- The Lisk SDK allows for developers to deploy their own sidechains and develop blockchain applications on top of them. This means a developer can build a fully decentralized App without the hassle of complicated consensus protocols or P2P networking algorithms.
- All deployed sidechains can have custom specifications, parameters, and transaction types fitting the dApp being build perfectly.
- Everything is written in JavaScript.
Usage:
- On the Lisk network the LSK token is used to save any data on the blockchain.
- The LSK token allows for voting rights on the mainchain.
- In a dApp sidechain you can either use the LSK tokens (which must be transferred to the sidechain) from the mainchain or an entirely new custom token specifically designated by the dApp creator.
