I have never mined but turning off your firewall....on a mining rig....sounds like a bad idea. Can a hacker steal btc or eth from a mining rig if accessed remotely?
If yes, then I would recommend forwarding all ports like you said. Turning off security sounds sketchy.
As far as i know every Application file execute in ,exe file that's why some of the files are scanned as virus in antivirus programs or on any spyware i mentioned it because many of our fellow members find problem in installing one application and after that they say your app is not working .i said you to disable it only the time of installation not forever.
