Regarding namecoin - I typically refer to that as part of the Gen 1 altcoins. Gen 1 includes most of what you would see in late 2012 early 2013 that include namecoin, peercoin, terracoin, primecoin etc. While I think there is a lot of validity to the project, I think it's tough because too many investors have the mindset of "the next great thing". Since investors in crypto seem to be so future oriented it's really hard for some of these older coins to gain any traction. Good project, pretty stable investment but probably not going to blow it out of the park anytime soon.
To be completely honest even I don't follow the coin much anymore so unless there is some new breaking news that I'm not aware of (I know it had some good volume earlier in the year) I would assume it's most likely going to remain in consolidation.
Thanks for sharing your opinion, The price took a hit last year when Onename Switched from using the Namecoin blockchain to the the Bitcoin blockchain. I picked this coin as a long term hold as I felt it was innovative, but you're right there have been a plethora of coins released in the last few year that have excited investors more.
