Why we should all use Tails!

What is Tails?

Tails is a free custom operating sysem based on Debian which is designed to be booted from a USB Flash drive. The purpose of Tails is to provide a secure untraceable computer session no matter where you are and what computer you are on. Tails was built from the ground up as a portable secure system that can be booted on your computer, or a friend's or even a public computer without having to worry about viruses or malware tracking your data. When you are done, Tails leaves no trace of your activity or that Tails was even booted. Tails automatically routes all internet traffic through the TOR network meaning your browsing is extremely hard to track.

What do I need it for?

Well, I did a post yesterday cryptocurrency storage safety, one option being a paper wallet. For people who do not have access to a secure computer or want to buy a new computer, then Tails can be used as an additional layer of safety to generate your paper wallet.

I also like taking a small USB with Tails with me when I leave the house. You never know when you are next put in a situation where you need to input private details on an unknown computer.

How do I download and use Tails?

Installation of Tails is a long but simple process, go to the Tails set up assistant for help on installing. Before starting the process make sure you have an empty USB drive with at least 2 GB of space.

When ready to boot the OS simply plug in your flash drive and reboot the computer. Select boot options when the machine is booting, typically this is f10 but on some boards it is different so just keep an eye out it.
