Investing is like a relay race….
Investing is like a relay race where you pick your runner and your investment is the baton. Deciding when to give your baton away or to take the baton will be vital in your success.
Buy low sell high is the old adage which is used. It is easy to get carried away and buy at a high price when you see it going up but the real big money is made from buying low picking projects you think will rise significantly. Then the next part is to choose when to hand your baton to the next runner. It makes perfect sense to take profits when any of your investments go up a lot especially when it is in a short space of time.
Buying low and selling high is easier said than done. I suggest keeping a diary of all the trades you make and writing down the reasons for your decisions and then reviewing it later. This has helped me gain a far greater understanding of my biases and thinking processes and has enabled me to assess my ability to predict the probabilities of where the market will go.
Tips I that I follow:
Buy low sell half when investment doubles
Do not be afraid to take profits
Understand the reasons behind a trade do not follow a “hit and hope approach”
Set targets so you have something to aim for
Keep a diary detailing your journey
