Cryptocurrency Course Part-6 (Protect Yourself From Phishers)

Phishing is a type of fraud. It's where criminals send emails to trick you into clicking links, opening attachments or divulging information. These emails are designed to steal information, download viruses or stop your device from working correctly.

These fraudsters often find out information about you to make their emails look legitimate or like something that would interest you.

Phishers send you a message with a link to a website that looks just like MyEtherWallet, EtherDelta, Paypal, or your bank, but is not the real website. They steal your information and then steal your money.

  1. Use a Chrome Extension to block malicious websites, like the EAL or MetaMask.

  2. Check the URL: For example, make sure it is http://bittrex.com and NOT http://blttrex.com

3: Check to see that it has a secure site symbol. Usually a green or yellow lock near the address bar.

  1. Do not trust random messages sent by email, Slack, Reddit, Twitter, etc.

  2. Go to a site directly before you enter information.

  3. Do not enter information after clicking a link from a message or email.

  4. Install an AdBlocker and do not click ads on your search engine (e.g. Google).
