How to Create a Coinbase Account

Why Make a Coinbase Account?

Coinbase is the major global exchange for all fiat to crypto transactions, which currently supports bitcoin, ethereum, bitcoin cash and litecoin. The easiest way to purchase your first crypto is by linking your bank account, but you can also use your credit card. The website is extremely user friendly and the mobile app is slick and fast. Another major fiat gateway is Gemini, which offers bitcoin and ethereum trading. You can follow our guide here to set up a Gemini account. Gemini generally has a better reputation in the industry (better customer support), however both exchanges are heavily regulated and offer similar cryptos.

Register

Step 1. Go to Coinbase (referral link) and create an account.

Step 2. Verify your email address.

Step 3. Enter your phone number and move to the next page. Coinbase will text you a 7 digit number. Enter the code and hit “Verify Phone Number”

Note: You will likely get an additional text from Coinbase with a link to download the mobile app. I highly recommend using the mobile app, its great for checking prices on the go!

Step 4. Now that your account is created, you need to update your personal info and verify your identity. Go to the “Settings” tab on the top row. Once you click on Settings, click on “My Profile” and there should be a blue highlighted line of text that says “You can enable a USD Wallet on your account by verifying your identity.” Click the hyperlink and enter your information.

Step 5. I reccomend linking your bank account directly and withdrawing funds, instead of using a credit card. Unfortunately the deposits can take several days! Don’t worry, the market will still be here when your deposits finally land!
