Decentralisation and blockchain technology in today’s world
CRYPTOCURRENCY HAS NO REAL WORLD APPLICABILITY! No I’m just joking, but I have heard this countless times by many people. In reality blockchain and surrounding cryptocurrency technology IS revolutionising the way that the world works. Blockchain technology has helped our world beome more peer to peer with everything from currency to entertainment, from gambling to hiring freelancers, from data storage to contracts and many more! The exciting thing is that every day more and more people are realising the power of this technology and the value of adopting it into popular culture.
Here are some of those exciting startups and how they are changing the world right now.
SIA
( Sia Tech ) First I would like to talk about SIA Coin. Sia is a decentralised cloud storage platform rivalling platforms like Dropbox, Google cloud storage, Amazon S3 and pretty much any company that requires storage (every website in existence). Sia does this by creating an Airbnb approach to storage where it’s equivalent miners can rent out their hard drive spaces to fellow Sia users. The real beauty of this is that they scatter and encrypt the information so that no one holds an entire file and you cannot access it unless you have your individual key that only you hold. By doing this there costs are absolutely minuscule in comparison to their competition.
Tenx
( TenX ) one of my personal favourites. Tenx is bridging the gap between old money and new money (fiat currency and digital currency). They have attracted the likes of EFTPOS and Visa to have a physical Debit/Visa card that exchanges digital currency to fiat instantly and let you pay with that, it will take the equivalent amount of bitcoin, dash or ether out of your crypto wallet and pay for your item from there. instantly and with no fees! the IOS App is launching either this month with cards being shipped the following month, At this stage,I’ll be using the card day to day and pretty much rejecting my bank account.
Augur
( Augur ) Revolutionising the prediction market as they say on their site “Augur combines the magic of prediction markets with the power of a decentralized network to create a stunningly accurate forecasting tool – and the chance for real money trading profits”. It’s pretty much a betting tool that results in an accurate real world tool to predict and gage real world events. Although they are only in beta testing right now the concept is well proven and the prediction market will never be the same.
Steem
( Steemit ) This system is the new age of social media where no longer are likes and comments going to waste, both sides of this platform the interaction results in steem which can be exchanged for fiat or crypto currency. So you are actually being paid for the content you create and interacting with it, rather than having to deal with ads like on facebook, youtube, instagram, etc.
Phof
(Phof.io) a decentralised photo distribution platform that leverages the blockchain to make storage costs for the images negligible and the applicability astonishing. Phof has set out to create a community around sharing social event / photographers photos with the people who were there to see it. Making tracking down, storing and sharing images seem less.
in conclusion crypto-currency is here to stay, like the internet in the 90s it seems like a crazy thing and not alot of people can see the impact that it will have on everyday life. These are a couple of the ideas that are being tested and proven now, and i’m sure there are far greater things waiting right around the corner!
