Cryptopia - Bitcoin, Blockchain & The Future of the Internet
Here's what should get you excited: Our first film was released more than 3 years ago. Since then, the price of Bitcoin has increased by a factor of 30. And the interest in the topic as well as the size of our audience has grown by a factor of 10 - at least. Imagine if we could reach 10 times more people than 3 years ago. Let's go mainstream, baby!"
This quote comes from a Kickstarter campaign. But not just any, this is the cinematic sequel to "Bitcoin: The End of Money As We Know It".
The new title is "Cryptopia - Bitcoin, Blockchain & The Future of the Internet".
According to Torsten Hoffmann the material for the film is already in the box, the Kickstarter campaign should now support the release, so that we can all soon become witnesses of the material.
But take a look for yourself:
Among other things, the emerging alternative cryptoeconomy is described and discussed, including backgrounds and diversified views.
Can the technology, the blockchain really be an alternative? Does utopia, a new, fairer organization, stand the test of time, or does it fail because of reality?
Can this technology, designed to operate independent of trust and within a decentralized network, really provide a robust alternative? Can it and the people behind it be trusted to secure elections, prevent financial meltdowns and keep our private information safe? Or are cryptocurrencies just as unfairly distributed, easily manipulated and dangerous as our current systems?
Some exciting questions, which are pursued in the documentation. In the meantime, four years have passed since the production of Hoffmann's first film. Even then, the project was partly financed by Kickstarter and partly from their own purse. The film was released in July 2016, went viral and became the "most pirated documentary of the year".
Now a sum of about 14,000 Euro is collected on Kickstarter for the successor of the documentary. You can watch and support the release of Cryptopia here:

Of course, there are also fine rewards, which one or the other will surely like.
Will the film be like the first?
Of course I can't answer this question concretely, but the Kickstarter article says that the documentaries are different. While the first film dealt a lot with the history of money, economics and the activities of the central banks and the relationship to Bitcoin was established via this channel, it will go deeper in the future. The focus is on current applications of the blockchain and the decentralization of the Internet.
This time, we work with a higher production budget, better creative ideas and with a much bigger scope. We'll get to know the experts in depth, cover actual applications of the blockchain and discuss the decentralization of the Internet.
Blockchain celebrities
We can also look forward to many exciting guests and contributions. This is at least the conclusion one draws after reading the following statement:
Many of the leading figures of the crypto community know us from 2014 and have been generous with their time again. The most influential speakers, developers and experts of the industry are part of our film. The most controversial companies and spokespersons have agreed to interviews and the list is growing still.
For my part, I was very pleased to see this successor to Bitcoin: The End of Money coming. In any case, I am curious to see what the team around Torsten Hoffmann will deliver in the end.
If you don't want to wait until Cryptopia is released and you haven't seen "Bitcoin: The End of Money as We Know It" yet, this documentary is highly recommended. I can't offer a direct source, but you should find the film in your own language without any problems.
