Hackers blocked city computers and demand a ransom
Online operations in the Spanish city of Jerez de la Frontera were suspended as a result of an attack by hackers demanding a ransom in bitcoin to unlock the city's computer systems.
Hackers demand an unnamed BTC amount for unlocking urban computer systems. However, the city administration has not yet satisfied the demands of the ransomware and has hired three cybersecurity experts to solve the problem, reports Breitbart.
The city’s computer systems were seized by hackers who demand a ransom in BTC for providing the administration with the keys necessary to decrypt the data. For a week now, the cyberattack has been preventing the city authorities from conducting regular online operations through their official website.
To solve the problem, the Spanish Ministry of the Interior sent three cybersecurity experts to the city. Mayor of Jerez de la Frontera Mamem Sanchez said the municipal website will remain offline until the systems are “one hundred percent secure.”
Recall that in June the authorities of the American city of Lake City paid ransomware in the amount of 42 BTC, and a little earlier the administration of the city of Riviera Beach paid a ransom of 65 BTC to unknown hackers who managed to take control of the computer system of the city.
In addition, in March, hackers demanded a ransom in bitcoins from the authorities of the American city of Atlanta for unlocking city computers.
