Altcoins Surge in November

in #cryptolast year

November 2023 marked a significant month for altcoins, as smaller cryptocurrencies like Avalanche (AVAX), Helium (HNT), Blur (BLUR), and Thorchain (RUNE) outperformed Bitcoin in the crypto markets. AVAX led the charge with a 97% surge, fueled by news of JPMorgan and Apollo using its network for testing real-world-asset tokenization. Helium (HNT) also made headlines with a remarkable 110% rally, while the NFT marketplace token BLUR and decentralized protocol RUNE both doubled their prices.

Bitcoin, in contrast, achieved a modest 10% gain, fluctuating between $34,000 and $38,000 for most of the month. It managed to reach a yearly high of $38,800 towards the end of November. Ether (ETH), the second-largest cryptocurrency, recorded a 13% increase, stabilizing above the $2,000 mark for the first time since April.

The slowed momentum in large-cap cryptocurrencies has led investors to explore riskier sectors of the digital asset market. This trend is evident in the CoinDesk Market Index sector performances, with the culture and entertainment sector index, encompassing NFT and metaverse tokens, rising by 42%, and the DeFi sector index increasing by 39%.
