Report: FOSS and Blockchain 101 Seminar in Mumbai
Yesterday I organized a seminar on FOSS (Free Open Source Software) and Blockchain in my college: D. J. Sanghvi College of Engineering that comes under Mumbai University.
2nd-year and 3rd-year Computer Engineering Undergrads and Coders attended this event with great enthusiasm towards learning open source contributions, git, GitHub, FOSS, and Blockchain.
Approximately 50 young Software Engineering students attended this seminar that lasted for around 2 hours :

As you can see in the poster, this seminar covered following topics :
- What is Google Summer of Code , How to prepare for it, Stipends, Timeline, Organizations under GSoC, etc.
Then we discussed:
- What is FOSS - Free Open Source Software?
- Relation between FOSS and Blockchain.
- Bitshares being OpenSource (FOSS).
- Bitshares' Block Explorer.
- Advantages and Disadvantages of FOSS.
The participants of the seminar started getting interested in Bitshares Technology and how it supports faster and secure transactions, etc. Then I distributed Bitshares and PalmPay Flyers among the attendees. I explained to them how merchants can accept money in various cryptocurrencies without any fees:
After a brief explanation on Bitshares and PalmPay, we moved towards following:
- How to make Open Source Contributions?
- What is Git and Github?
- How to use Git for contributing on Github?
And then, the event concluded with some queries, discussions about blockchain economy and security in transactions, positive feedback, and some snacks :
