Vegas City: A Virtual Reality District

Vegas City District

*Disclaimer: I’m here to write about an immersive virtual reality Vegas City experience. If that doesn’t excite you, then I suggest you take a trip to your nearest psychiatrist. Enjoy*

Vegas, Baby!

Howdy Troops, So you’ve always wanted to visit Las Vegas? Can’t afford? Too busy? Family commitments? Work commitments? Don’t have time? I can offer a solution, and I will dispense this solution...

Now.

That’s right, rather than having to go to the effort of packing your bags (don’t forget your toothpaste dear), buying a plane ticket (oh, and you need travel insurance), dragging your ass away from your computer (you spend too much time there anyway), and spending several thousand dollars/pounds/euro or whatever other currency (who has that amount of fiat when you’re into crypto anyway?), you can remain sat in your underwear and plug into a virtual reality world at a Vegas-esque poker or roulette table, gambling your hard-earned (ha) cryptocurrency!

The Scenario

Imagine this:

**Real life: I’m sat on my computer in my underwear (maybe don’t imagine the underwear bit – or do, whatever floats your boat), eating Rice Crispies, listening to Spotify, on a dreary, overcast Sunday morning.**

Virtual Reality Vegas City: I pull up to the casino, slide out of my Lambo (because what other cars exist in crypto world?), Rolex reflecting off the lights, stroll into the casino and plonk my slick tuxedo-suited ass on one of the stools at a roulette table.

10K MANA (Decentraland’s cryptocurrency) on number 11 please.

*Chips get placed*

*Shaboom, it lands, because 11 always does people* (second disclaimer: do not take financial advice from a troll).

“350K MANA in my wallet lovely spinner-lady.”

*collects winnings - stands up like a god*

“Oh, and take 1K for yourself”

**Real world: log-off, go for a shower, big smile on my face, approximately 35K USD richer.**

The above is a dream scenario in terms of the financial winnings (for the average Joe at least), but the reality of the experience, is very far from a dream. Soon it will be a reality, a virtual reality which is currently being crafted in the form of Decentraland’s Vegas City district.

Follow The Leader

Once again, I have been lucky enough to obtain comments from project lead James Ashton, who outlined the Vegas District’s aims, vision and composition:

“Vegas City is a gigantic VR project. We have 800 land contributors who have contributed to (sic) an area equivalent of about 80 football pitches. Our aim is to set the scene for the evolution of a VR paradise which not only lives up to the stereotypical gamblers hypermarket image that Las Vegas has, but also sets the bar in terms of all round entertainment and hedonism for all.”

Mr. Ashton then added that Vegas aims to:

“... partner with existing online and real world casinos and other gaming providers by giving them a platform which takes the headache away from their setup of a gaming operation in Decentraland.”

Like most of the other districts, Vegas is currently partaking in due diligence requirements in line with all things legal (after all – gambling is tightly regulated) and ethical; which are necessary to present a proposal for LAND contributor’s consideration (people who contributed to the community effort to make the vision a reality). However, I have a sneaky suspicion it will not be very long at all before we start to see some epic virtual reality content being constructed.

But you don’t have to take my word for it, just listen to what Mr. Ashton has to say:

“(we want to ensure) Vegas has some of the very best content in Decentraland. it is our goal that people will flock to Vegas City for entertainment, nightlife, experiences, sport and socialising, as well as gambling. We want to create a district with something for everybody.”

Whilst the Vegas district promises much already, I feel there is still plenty more to come from Vegas.

The Future

I have absolutely no doubt, despite not having any official or unofficial indication to suggest this is the case, that there is going to be serious interest from big financial players, who are looking to invest in Vegas and erect some epic vegas-esque casinos. Why, you ask? Because who doesn’t want to enter a decentralised world (Decentraland) and play virtual reality poker and use their cryptocurrency to gamble? Oh the investors will see the potential, mark my words, they WILL see the potential.

Even if they don’t, you can always count on small fry like me. I have already begun working in partnership with developers to produce an atmospheric, seedy poker room. The aim of my small project will be to offer something different to the glitz and glam of the big casinos.

It doesn’t look like much right now, but check out some the initial model below:

Fortunately, I have assembled a phenomenal team with a vast amount of experience including a developer, who shall not be named, which has worked on massive feature films such as Guardians of the Galaxy. That’s right, top developers are itching to get a piece of Decentraland and likewise the Vegas District. Vegas contains obvious charm since it offers concepts which align with the crypto-community: money, fast cars, bright lights, hot women and Lambos.
