Beginner's Guide to Buying on KuCoin Exchange

in #crypto7 years ago (edited)

So you’ve signed up for an account on CoinBase, you went through the verification process, you purchased one of the big four coins, but what about the others?

What about those ‘altcoins’ you keep hearing about? You know, the ones with 5x, 10x, and 100x gains. You may have heard names like Request Network, BAT, Golem, and more. Well, to purchase other cryptocurrencies you will need to sign up for an account on a reputable exchange. For the purpose of this tutorial we will setup an account on the KuCoin Exchange.

Registration
To register for the KuCoin Exchange use the link below. (referral link)

Once you are on the home page, click on the ‘Sign Up’ button in the top-right corner. Fill out all relevant information and confirm your signup via the email address you provided.

Setting Up 2-Factor Authentication — SUPER IMPORTANT
2FA is vital in securing your account/funds. If a hacker acquires your email/password they will have no problem in accessing your account. Google Authenticator adds an extra step in the sign-in process which requires a mobile device and the Google Authenticator app.

Download the Google Authenticator app for either IOS or Android. In the top-right corner of the app, click the ‘+’ icon. From there you will be asked to scan barcode or enter manually.

Google Authenticator AppScan the barcode given in the Google 2-Step tab in your Kucoin settings. Next, input the six-digit code into KuCoin which is given to you on the GA app. You should receive confirmation that your 2-Factor Authentication has been setup successfully!

IMPORTANT: Write down your Google Authenticator code or save it in a different location offline. If your phone gets lost, stolen, or breaks than you will have NO way of gaining access to your KuCoin account without this code for recovery.

Sending Funds to KuCoin from CoinBase
Now that you’re secure we can send funds to your account. Any funds on Coinbase will work for this process. Login to Coinbase and navigate to the wallet of your choice (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, Bitcoin Cash). Once inside your wallet, you will click on the send button in the top-right corner (looks like a paper airplane).

Enter the amount you’d like to transfer to your Kucoin account and hit send.

You will now be prompted for the Kucoin deposit address. At this point we will need to get the deposit address from KuCoin. Navigate to the ‘Assets’ tab on KuCoin’s website.

Find the coin you are transferring. Click on the ‘Deposit’ button on the right.

Deposit address for Coinbase transferCopy this address and paste it into the recipient address on Coinbase. Click Send. Your funds are now in the process of transferring to Kucoin. The transfer time will depend on network congestion.

Now for the Trading
Navigate to the ‘Markets’ tab on KuCoin. Here you will see coins available for trading and their related pairs.
On KuCoin, cryptocurrency is traded in pairs. For example, BTC/REQ, ETH/XVG, LTC/BNTY. Most coins are traded against BTC, ETH, and LTC, but KuCoin offers NEO and some USDT options as well. For this example, we will purchase BNTY with ETH.

Trading on Kucoin via EthereumClick on the ETH trading tab to populate all the available coins to be traded with Ethereum. Find the Bounty0x (BNTY) coin and click on it. You will be sent to the ‘Advanced Exchange View’. In the bottom right-corner you will be asked to input your Google 2-step verification code. Once the code has been verified you are ready to make a purchase.

Click on the ‘Best Price: xxx ETH’ to populate the best ETH market price to buy BNTY. Enter the amount of BNTY you would like to purchase and hit ‘Buy’.
