What You Should Know About Craig Wright

in #crypto6 years ago

🤓Craig Steven Wright is an Australian businessman and computer scientist who has not been a stranger to controversy since bitcoin’s earliest days, for many years he has claimed to be Satoshi Nakamoto. Although there are many coincidences between Wright and Nakamoto, Craig’s claim is widely believed to be a hoax.

Perhaps one of the most interesting facts of the matter is how Wright had planned to open a “bitcoin bank” months before the bitcoin whitepaper was published. It is also undeniable that Wright had easily correspondences with some of bitcoin’s earliest adopters Hal Finney and Gavin Andressen, among others. In the decade since, Wright has provided evidence to substantiate his claim in the form of cryptographic signatures. Although, it has since been pointed out that these prove nothing as was pointed out by programmer Jeff Garzik.🤫

🧐This first controversy came about in 2015 as a result of two investigations by Gizmodo and Wired magazines as they attempted to determine who bitcoin’s creator was. It wasn’t long after the articles were published that Wright’s home was raided by Australian authorities as part of a tax investigation. Around this time Craig made a long statement about how although he was Satoshi, he didn’t plan to provide any further evidence because his “qualifications and character were being attacked” and that he “is not strong enough for this.”

Since 15’/16’ the controversy surrounding Wright and his claim to being Bitcoin’s creator has only emboldened. Most notably, in mid April when Wright had a public dispute on Twitter with the founder of Binance. Wright continued to claim that he was Satoshi, and CZ threatened to delist a fork of Bitcoin Cash (BCH) of which Wright was heavily involved. After Wright continued, Binance subsequently delisted BCHSV (Satoshis Vision) and a number of other leading exchanges followed suit. Wright has also continued suing those who claim he is not Satoshi for defamation.

🙄Until we know the true identity of the creator of bitcoin, this type of drama will likely continue. We have mixed feelings about this as it would likely be better for the bitcoin ecosystem to not know who the true creator is, but as long as the subject remains relevant it means that bitcoin is relevant. Needless to say, we prefer a world where bitcoin remains relevant!!

🤷We hope you enjoyed our short piece on Mr. Wright; regardless of his true identity of being Satoshi or not, we appreciate his work early on with bitcoin. If it weren’t for very early adopters like him we wouldn’t be where we are today with a whole ecosystem of cryptocurrencies!

Noozzle community: Do you think Mr. Wright is Satoshi? If not, who else? We have a few other guesses, although as mentioned earlier, it’s more or less irrelevant..
