@desque38 any NEO is better off in your wallet than on exchange, also even 1 NEO produces GAS (not coins ), more NEO faster you will produce GAS, here is a simple calculator on how much you can produce based on how much NEO you got, more is better obviously

if you go to https://neo.org/download you can choose your wallet, holding it in wallet means that you own the keys, price of the coin depends on supply and demand.
