MediBloc: Better and Proper Health on the Blockchain
Intro Video
INTRODUCTION
On November 12th, 2008, I lost my father in a dramatic but painful manner. When I heard the news, my first thought was that maybe he had an accident because he was quite healthy when I talked to him that day in the morning. Contrary to what I thought , he didn't. He went for a routine check up for a minor abdominal pain, at the hands of a renowned specialist doctor and surgeon, who was known for his dexterity in the medical field.
Further enquiries into his death led to a discovery; he was given a penicillin injection, an antibiotic that he has always been allergic to. He started reacting to the drug and as he gasped for air, the young doctor in desperation, gave him an asthma medication which worsened his situation, and he passed on. I was 19 at the time of his unfortunate demise.
I struggled so hard to pardon the doctor who I deem it to be responsible for my father's death but one little fact was obvious. That was lack of health history of my father. My dad has always been so allergic to penicillin injections for as long as I can remember while growing up. My mum crossed it off his drug prescription list, but the doctor was treating him, knew nothing about it. Perhaps the young doctor's fault was not being cautious enough to tell my father that he was giving him a penicillin injection, maybe if he did, he would have been alive today.
What happened to my father was unfortunate and totally avoidable and it shouldn't be allowed to keep happening in this day and age of cutting edge technology.

A few other individuals may have suffered the same fate as my late father, and this occurs due to unavailability of medical records and history of their patients to physicians, before proper treatment. The available medical records are either filed manually or filed in one central database making it a herculean task for referral in the cases of other medical check ups.
I kept asking myself, "what if the doctor had a record of my father's medical history?", it would have made a huge difference. There arises a need for easy and proper access of health information to physicians, for proper diagnosis and health care and in the long run, save lives.
THE WAY FOWARD: MEDIBLOC
MediBloc is a medical platform that aims to provide a decentralized mode of accessing medical records and research materials by the manner of giving full authority to its patient users.
MediBloc performs these duties by allowing their participating patients to visit any medical facility or physician, with their medical records in hand. This reduces the stress of booking the same record all over again or looking for the same record from a pile of other medical records. This increases the chances of proper and adequate health care, with the doctors fully armed with their patients' medical records and information.
MediBloc was founded by Dr. Allen Wookyun and Dr. Eunsol Lee, both experts in medical and engineering fields with addition of cutting edge technology.
MediBloc is developing its own blockchain with a view to provide a proper and adequate health that is digitalized and easy to use to the full discretion of the patients.
IMPACT OF MediBloc ON MODERN DAY HEALTH CARE
MediBloc operates on the blockchain by securing patients medical information as well as adding changes along the way as the patients improves on their health. It records medical data, tests, allergies as well as history of previous health issues suffered by the patient.
The most important feature of it is its ability to delegate this information at the patient's discretion. This impacts on the people by:
Digitalized Record
A look into the record rooms of most hospitals gives an extremely tedious appearance of lots of records, and files of thousands belonging to patients that may have requested treatment at the hospital from time to time. Such a manner of storage can easily be compromised or tampered with. Health information is a legally valuable information that when tampered with, can cause lots of damages to the patient involved.
Also imagine a situation where a patient was wheeled into the emergency ward of a hospital without any family member being present. Locating his medical records in that type of manual record room will not only be tedious, but will also waste lots of time needed to save the patient's life. With MediBloc, medical information of patients can be fished out from their blockchain in matter of seconds and is made available to the attending physician.
Better and Adequate Health care with Zero Margin for error
With patients being able to give access to their medical information, physicians can appropriately treat them with a much clear view as to how to treat them properly, ensuring proper and correct diagnoses and treatment.
This method can save lots of lives as their won't be any room for error or hypothetical judgments.
Monetary Gains
Patients can also choose to make available some of their medical information, available for research in exchange for MED rewards and as such earn some income through their ingenuity. Everybody wins in this case and it increases research value on certain ailments.
Security of Information
In most societies, medical information is a high value asset which should not be shared indiscriminately. The central way of storing medical records have suffered lots of loopholes in recent times from hacks, fraud and even corrupt medical practices. But with MediBloc, the patients is the sole owner of his own information and is protected by its blockchain.
Accelerating Innovation
From the numerous data being shared by patients all over the MediBloc platform, researchers will be armed with lots of arsenal against new and prevalent ailments. This will eventually lead to new and innovative ways of fighting diseases by understanding the dynamics of different human DNA.
Health insurers are armed with a proper health care information and health history when drawing up health insurance information for their clients. The statistics of law suits from health insurance companies have increased over the years due to lack of transparency. With MediBloc, all information are taken into account before drawing up the appropriate contract to their clients, hereby eliminating any case of fraud.
Interoperability is Key
Medical practices defers in different countries and regions. A medical record on Nigeria might not be the same as that in London. This huge divide is solved through MediBloc's ability to be used anywhere and anytime around the globe since the power of medical data sharing lies with the patient.
MediBloc Patnership
MediBloc builds its blockchain with support from strong partnership from big corporations. Most of these companies are medical research institutions which ensures that proper research materials reaches them from time to time. Medical research is a continuous process as more and more diseases are discovered everyday.
Therefore, a string partnership with the right places can project MediBloc to where they aim to be in the nearest future.
The number of medical institutions associated with MediBloc is expected to increase with time. Below is the number of hospitals and clinics partnering with them across the globe.
MediBloc Flexibility
Even with its mode of operation involving absolute power of delegation of medical information to its patients, MediBloc also have a mode of flexibility. This allows it to delegate control of each patient's medical information to close family members or next of kin when the patient is incapable of making such decisions on their own. Apart from such emergency cases, full authority remains with the user or the patient involved.
USE CASES OF MediBloc
Case 1
Chioma is a mother of 5 children whom her last child, Bobby is suffering from a rare genetic disease. Chioma is a renowned user of MediBloc who has all the records of her children on their blockchain. The doctor in charge of Bobby's case informs Chioma that Bobby might not be cured as the ailment has no cure. Chioma then decides to sale some of Bobby's medical history of the ailment to MediBloc research facility, since they're gonna pay her for the information and in the long run, provided an efficient cure for her son.
Chioma ends up making some income and as well procuring hope of her child being cured in the future.
Case 2
Charkes is a regular patient an the University teaching hospital in Benin, Nigeria. He has observed with contempt how he has always paid for a new record file anytime he visits the hospital for check up and most times, the previous doctor that attended to him often misplaced them. Charles chooses instead to use MediBloc as it proffers a digitalized way of saving his medical information and also gives him full access of what to share with the doctor any time he comes for medical check up.

ROADMAP
CONCLUSION
The world of cryptocurrency is progressing in heaps and bounds as the days go by, but MediBloc is the best news to have ever happened to the blockchain with an organized package of health care information given under the sole authority of the user. In life, health is everything and any move to improve our health is of huge gain to humanity because life is precious.
When I saw the contest topic, I kept wondering if my father would still be alive had the attending doctor on that fateful day, got ahold of his medical history.
