New Web3 Support in the Coinbase App
Coinbase announced on their official blog yesterday support for Ethereum-based decentralized apps (dapps) coming to the Coinbase mobile app. This feature will allow users of the app to view and explore various dapps available in the Ethereum blockchain ecosystem.
A Wallet Without Keys
How can users use dapps without access to a dedicated Ethereum address or keys to their address? This dapp wallet is powered by Multi-Party Computation technology, according to the blog. This technology allows Coinbase to share keys with you while keeping a copy of them within Coinbase. While controversial, this allows Coinbase to assist recovery of accounts in the case you loose your keys.
Already Live
Coinbase rolled out this change yesterday with the blog announcement. To get started, go to the new “Browser” tab in the navigation bar at the bottom of the Android mobile app screen, and set up your new dapp wallet. Once set up, you can search, discover, and use Ethereum-based dapps directly in the new dapp browser of the Coinbase app. You may need to update your app if you do not yet see the option.
