Thanks for the article! I've been mining using the official miner for a few days now (just on my skylake i7) and wondered what the benefits of going through the extra hoops to set up this miner were. Slightly improved hash rate and more settings? Or am I missing something...

    That's right, I see about 4 h/s using the built-in miner and about 11 h/s using the Java miner. Pretty substantial increase for me.
