My short history with crypto

in #crypto7 years ago

Hi all, I'm going to share my story of buying cryptocurrencies. English is not my first language, so I probably make a lot of mistakes writing but I'm not going to check with google translator any of the things I write (because I'm laisy)

I found out of Bitcoin watching the netflix documentary Banking on Bitcoin(I think if you want to sell something, just do a documentary and put it on netflix with 5 starts). I'm an economist and the idea of having a decentralize coin with no influence of states or monetary polices was mind blowing. But this wasn't the first time I heard about Bitcoin. I first new of the existence of Bitcoin when I download the Tor browser and was trying to find a Hacker to change my university grades (no success everything in the Tor browser looks like spam), and it was weird that to pay something in the deep web you need to use this coin called Bitcoin. I regret not to dig further in the matter.

After watching the documentary I was determinate to buy the cryptocurrency, not to make money but for the philosophic view of controlling one of the most valuable aspects of your life, your bank account. Where I live, banks have a lot of power and so customers are not protected for their abuse. For example, we have to paid monthly to have our debit card. If we want to transfer money to another bank account or withdraw funds, we are charge with a tax. If we want to send money outside the city we are charge with a $4 dollars feed. A international transfer would take days and there is another feed. I think the banks can improve all of this but they don't do it because they don't care about us.

Ok, so enough with the introduction. I was thinking Bitcoin was the best thing could ever happen and I bought a few in a Latin America exchange, I download the wallet form the bitcoin.org page and set the complete node (it took one day to sync the complete blockchain history). I then try to transfer my recent bitcoin purchase (0.00023) to my wallet and despite the documentary staying: 'Bitcoin has low feed', it charge me 0.0008 feed, what was this? It is expensive that any other bank in here! It was a big dissapointment, I though I was a step close to economical liberty but all I have was 50 GB of useless blocks.

So I convert the Bitcoins for Bitcoin Cash and this is was I was initially expecting, NO FEEDS. I download the bitcoin cash wallet, but... I have been trying to sync for 3 days and there are 30 weeks left to end the sync. But there is one last crypto I can buy in this country so everything isn't lost.

Two hours ago I download Ethereum wallet and is sync at 70% now. Hopefully there are no transaction feeds with this coin so I can have money inside my computer.
