The best new ideas from today’s 2016 Idea Generation Conference run the gamut (as you’d expect). A diverse collection of investors pitched their funds and most representative ideas, which utilized a variety strategies, data and event filters, among others. Investopedia streamed the event live to more than 300 viewers in over 35 countries.

One big theme was where the economy and markets are going and the economy is headed toward recession. There was no consensus, except that active management and stock picking could very well make a comeback in the coming years, and that doing the research homework on your stock picks partly alleviates the need to worry about short-term market movements, the election and other events. That said, the Federal Reserve’s interest rate policy continues - and will continue to - weigh heavily on the markets and investors.

Yet another theme was the pace of change among companies. Craig Kaufman, the event’s coordinator and no stranger to the tech sector having run his own technology media and telecom-focused investment bank, said that democratization of new company development means new ventures can get off the ground faster and cheaper than just a few years ago, pressuring existing companies to reinvent themselves and rethink revenue streams.
