Gladius–Protection in a Decentralized Virtual World

As our species dives deeper into the virtual world. The issues that are unique to that space are multiplied many folds. And while the learning curve might be steep for the untrained. The ubiquitous nature of cyber-attacks not only makes that curve steeper, it brings with it the frustrations of having to deal with one’s data being compromised. This is daunting for everyone, especially for those with little resources, who want to set up shop in cyberspace. Getting one's data secure is not only difficult at times, but it can be super expensive.

Chief among these attacks are DDoS attacks. According to gladius.io, the average DDoS attack costs on average $500,000. With the average attack lasting 6 hours to over half of all sites, at an average of 500 Mb/s, one becomes acutely aware of the gravity of the situation, and the need to protect one’s data. Now, Gladius, a blockchain inspired innovation, is seeking to solve this problem. Being among the first providers of decentralized cybersecurity, it aims to bypass the traditional system and give everyone, especially small players, more cost-effective access to internet security.

Making Protection Affordable

I was taken aback by the astronomical sums many of the big players charge to provide protection to their clients. The figures run as high as $5,000, even if they don’t suffer an attack. This, according the Gladius “…happens while a majority of computing power and bandwidth in the world goes unused.” The Gladius solution, therefore, is to utilize these vast untapped resources to reduce attacks.(sic) Utilizing this approach does two main things. First, it eliminates the possibility of a centralized attack, because the bandwidth is provided by ordinary people, who rent out unused bandwidth to clients who want to purchase it using Gladius technology.

A Use Case Scenario

Let us provide a use case scenario. Marcus, who is 28 years old, is starting an internet business in his parents’ basement. He works part-time and goes to community college on the weekends. To top it off, the enterprise is energy intensive, so much so that it costs him most of his $7 an hour job to pay his part of the electricity bill. Marcus will not be able to buy protection, and if he does, it will come from racking up debt. Furthermore, in this present economic climate, it is highly unlikely he would qualify for a loan. With Gladius, this concern is eliminated, as it lowers the cost of buying protection.

Additionally, Marcus’ parents have an extra PC, which they do not use much. Marcus strikes a deal with them to get them on the Gladius ecosystem to rent out their unused computer space. They use this to generate income they use to cover electricity costs. He also does this with his computer, so, when he is at work or school, he is selling bandwidth to reduce his work hours, thus giving him more time to run his business.

Synergy on the Blockchain

Built on the most user-friendly blockchain platforms. Gladius is set to bring improvements to the current system through utilizing and improving upon current technology by using smart contracts. Now, given a choice between the potential for human error or the certainty of mathematics is a no-brainer. After all, that is why the blockchain is upending the present system. But Gladius goes beyond this and creates a true ecosystem by fusing peer-to-peer and DDoS protection at a much faster rate than any other platform that provides a similar service.

Gladius Compensates:

Not to belabor this point, but for the cash-strapped, this provides great potential. If you are a financially challenged as much of the global population, you will appreciate the potential for passive income. Let us be frank, the prospect for job growth is abysmal. We are at the tail end of the industrial age. Many of the jobs we take for granted now will disappear in our lifetime. Seeking alternative means of earning an income is necessary, and this is one way in which Gladius can assist many who are struggling financially.
