Kažun, typical Istrian small stone cottage
Kažun is name for small houses built in the drywall technique, made of natural stone, without a window. It is usually round, with a conical or stepped tip.
They are most characteristic for Istria as well as for other parts along the Croatian coast and other Mediterranean countries.
In the prehistoric times they were used as homes, and later to store the farm tools, and to shepherds as shelter in times of war.
