Doodles are Fun (Part - 1)

in #cricket6 years ago (edited)

Hey pal, I looked at this Google Doodle today and my interest was piqued. I dug in for information and decided to share it with you. I also wanted to make a series of all the important Doodles under the title “Doodles are Fun”. So here is the first one:

Google Doodle celebrates the birthday of Sir Donald George Bradman, a hero to Australian cricket fans and affectionately known as "The Don". He achieved a lifetime test batting average of 99.4, which is considered as one of the greatest achievements by an athlete in a sport. He considers his unique batting stance and grip to be cause of his achievements.

He was born on August 27, 1908 at Cootamundra in New South Wales. He made his debut in 1927 when he was just 19 years old. He scored 118 runs for his New South Wales team against the Adelaide. He scored a total of 6,996 runs in 52 Test Matches which entitles him as one of the best cricketer on the pitch. There was a time when Wisden Cricketer’s Almanack polled 100 former cricketers and journalists to determine the top cricketer of the 20th century, all 100 of them nominated “The Don”.

Bradman set the world standard in the sport through the 1930s and 1940s. He scored 309 runs in one of his much cited game at Headingley Cricket Ground in England. He was so dedicated and passionate about cricket that even after his retirement, he remained a fixture in the cricket world as an administrator and commentator. The ever courteous and modest man earned a lot many accolades. He was honored with a museum during his lifetime. The then Prime Minister called him “the greatest living Australian” and he also knighted Sir Donald George Bradman in 1949.

To be honest, this was the first time i heard of him

Hahaha.... I appreciate your honesty 👏👏
There might be any of these two reasons.... Either you don't know much about Australian players... Or you don't like cricket history...

Yea, cricket is not really popular here. I myself never played it, or seen a game in real life

Hmmm.... It's an interesting game... You should give it a shot ;)
