Monkey Teddy
I made a very simple teddy to go with the baby quilt I just finished.
The inspiration - a monkey on one of the sections on the quilt. The quilt has quite a few jungle animals on it, so I thought this would be a nice feature to pick out.
The sketch.
Drawing over the sketch with tracing paper.
Cutting out the templates.
Drawing round the outline of one half of the back pieces.
The back is in two pieces which will be sewn together at the top and bottom, leaving a gap through which the filling is stuffed.
The ears and face.
The tail.
I put the ears, tail and face together first; these were the fiddliest parts to do, and these parts are sewn in between the front and back piece of the body, so you'll need them ready first.
The face is sewn onto the front piece.
The tail is sewn between the two back pieces along the spine seam.
After this, you sew the front to the back, remembering to sew the pieces so that it is inside out. I started at the legs and sewed along the edge to the head. I pinned the ears so that they were inside the head before it was sewn together. the bottom of the ears were sewn between the front and back pieces of fabric. I'm not sure if you can see it in the picture below, but the bottom of the ears are sticking out of the top of the head. The tail gets sewn inside the body too; make sure to fold it back as you sew the side seams together.
After the front and back are sewn together, you pull the legs, arm and head through the opening left in the back for the stuffing - turning the teddy from inside out to right side out. The skinny legs and arms can be tricky, so a pencil is useful to push the ends out.
Flat teddy!
The completed ted.
I would say the result is somewhat... Donna Wilson-esque? He's a bit skinnier than I was hoping for, but hopefully good for cuddling, none the less :)
Thanks for having a look, and hope you enjoy!
