5 Artist Grants ($$) to Help You Thrive!

in #creativity7 years ago

We all know the stereotype of the “struggling artist”. It can be a little scary out there when you are constantly putting yourself on the line for little to no reward! (I. know. this. feeling.)

If you’re an artist reading this, then I’m going to go out on a limb and say that you have spent many hours working “for free”. I know I have! My passion for my art has often meant forgoing steady pay for a chance to create.

But you know what? I’m tired of the “struggling artist” stereotype! One of my missions as a creative consultant is to help artists secure funding for their work so they can spend more time creating, and less time making sure their bills are paid.

Are you an artist reading this? Here’s what I can do for you (starting today) to share the love: I’ll be writing a weekly tip list with 5 grant funding opportunities for artists at all levels and of all disciplines!

Feel free to ask questions, and keep on checking my blog (@lilyraabe) for more arts resources.

Hi friend! Thanks for stopping by, I’m really glad you’re here!

I’m an artist, writer, and creative consultant based in the Pacific Northwest. I see steemit as an incredible asset to artists and creatives as a way to share their work and connect with like-minded people. You can check out my intro post, read more about the theatre projects I work on, or follow me! I’m especially interested in finding other performing artists on this site. If that’s you, please say hello! See you around the steemosphere! @lilyraabe

Wow I have never heard of any of these! All artists could absolutely benefit from some funding, and I am glad to hear about these opportunities. Resteeming so more artists can see :)

Rad, thank you! I’ll keep ‘em coming, also going to include residencies and the like. :)

Look at this beautiful post 😭 Your formatting alone makes me want to read it over and over again, and what USEFUL content! So many artists on Steemit are here because we see this as an opportunity to make actual money... but this is just as great! I'm going to check these grants out and share this post with my artist friends. I'd not heard of a single one of these resources until you shared them. Keep up the GREAT work sister!

Yay, I’m so glad it’s useful content, trying to find that sweet spot! Steemit is definitely a great resource for artists to make some actual cash--but diversifying your revenue stream is also important! :-D More to come, thanks for the kind words, and see you around!

Hello!

And thanks for sharing. Maybe something will be useful even for russians :)

Thank you so much for stopping by! Realized after publishing that there were no international opportunities on here and that I should include some since this is a global platform. There will be some for international artists next week! :)

Thank you! I'll read :)

That's fantastic you've put this here. I've upboted and resteemed it.

Artists and creative people need to have some support to allow their work to be optimal. The battle of survival is incredibly costly to the soul and hurts whatever wants to emerge.

Out of curiosity do you know any writer's grants or writer residents or retreats? I'm just curious for the longer term as I write a lot of fiction and have some romanticised vision of doing something like that one day.

Thanks for all your work, keep writing for Steem x

Hey there--I don’t know of as many writers grants off the top of my head (although I think a few of these you could make a case for!). However, there are loads of residencies, some with stipends, some without...a whole variety really. Here’s one list that has a few options (and I’ll start adding in residencies I’ve handpicked into this weekly blast!) http://www.azucarmag.com/10-residencies-pay-travel-produce-art/

P.S. This is one of my “handpicked” ones. :) https://www.spaceonryderfarm.org You wanna look at their Creative Residencies (fully subsidized!).

Hey @alexc I featured residencies specifically this week in the series! Some good ones in here, including a 66-page list of international residences: https://steemit.com/creativity/@lilyraabe/3-artist-opportunities-usdusd-to-help-you-thrive-or-02

This is awesome! I'm adding this to my bookmark bar, and totally using it as bait for my creative friends whom I have yet to lure onto Steemit ;)

Upvoted!

<3 I found you on the #teamgirlpowa board <3

Fab.u.lous. There will be one a week (and I’ll start dropping in some Artist Residencies and other development opps that I think are groovy too). Thanks for stopping by and see you around!

I've already come back and read this fantastic post for the second time.

I hope I understand correctly, you are starting a weekly series of these amazing resources? And you manage artists' grants??? I would love to read more about that!
