If they are not upvoting you is because… (Photography)

in #creativecoin5 years ago (edited)

Today, manual curation has become a constant and all curators are looking for good content to give their upvote. Thanks to the HF21 and HF22 something that should have been normal throughout the time has been put on the table, as is this task that on the Steem platform should be everyone's task.

The incredible thing is that there are times when curators get tired of looking for content to vote and don't get anything of quality that merits delivering that percentage of reward that means an upvote on this platform.

You may ask yourself: but if I publish every day, why don't they upvote my post?

There are many mistakes that we make and that take us away from the desired vote and on many occasions we don't know the causes. The idea with this series of post that I am going to make, under the title of “If they are not upvoting you is because…”, is to point out some of the main causes that make curators not leave their mark on your post.

In this one today I will focus on photography. If your posts are focused on images and you do not receive upvotes, it may be due to some of the reasons I will explain below.

Effort

First of all it is necessary to remember that one of the goals on our platform is rewarding the effort that the authors put into their work. Therefore, pasting a photo and not placing more information denotes a lack of effort.

So if your central axis is the images, try to add value to it. Tell us the story behind that picture. Tell us the editing equipment and programs you used and how you applied certain effects. Tell us about the place you photographed, but not the famous "copy/paste" of some tourism page or Wikipedia.

Make us feel that you are making a publication with your image or images, because you really have something to tell and it is not just about publishing “something” to get some upvotes.

Originality

There are some people on the platform who already get rage attacks when they see "another" picture of a flower. Of course, flowers are usually beautiful, but 500 flower photo posts (especially if they are not EXCEPTIONAL) will surely bore everyone, including curators, of which I know that some do not even enter when they know it's about flower pictures.

There are many things that can be photographed, so apply your ingenuity and creativity.

But linked to originality there must be a maximum effort to achieve quality. And I don't mean the one that gives a professional camera, I mean a well centered image, an even horizon, a photo that is in focus. In other words, transmit the effort you made to try to achieve the best possible picture.

Repost

I do not know if there are some people who do not know that repeating old content is something that is not allowed on the platform. You cannot publish a photo today and republish it in two months and pretend to be rewarded for the same work.

If you delete your previous post it's worse, because that already indicates the intention to deceive... Remember that nothing that is published on the Steem platform disappears. Everything is there and you can get it. And if you are discovered trying to deceive users, you will enter a series of lists in which you can forget to receive votes anymore.

Photographic art

Photography is an art and as such we must respect it. Of course there is another type of work in which this aspect is not so important, but it always has a great weight. A photo of a beach, of a person, of a mountain (yes, a flower too), of a building, of an insect, all can be a work of art and so we must understand it.

A document

But photography can also be the simple witness or evidence of a walk, of a place you visited, of an activity. A series of images can become a graphic report. But for that you also need to be clear. A travelpost cannot be my face in the foreground during the entire trip. Show us the places, the most attractive parts of the place, show us different angles of the place. Give us several images that allow us to have a clear idea of how it is there.

If it is an event, the same. Make us feel that we were on the place, that we participated in the activity, because we could see EVERYTHING, the most important things that happened there. Give us a broad view of the event, its participants, its organizers. Show us everything you consider worth highlighting.

Non-own images

Of course, not all work is done with photographs of us, made by us. In this first case you should ALWAYS indicate it in each publication, even if it sounds boring: "All the photos were taken by me with such a camera...".

But if your review requires images extracted from other websites, then you should place the link to that site.

NO TO THE PICTURE ITSELF
NO TO A SEARCH ON GOOGLE OR ANOTHER SEARCH ENGINE
NO TO THE MAIN ADDRESS OF THE SITE YOU TOOK IT FROM

I want to say that if the photo is from Unsplash.com (for example), the link is not to www.unsplash.com, but to the page that contains the image you are using.

On many occasions the curators have the delicacy and time to leave you a reminder, in case you have omitted it, but most of the time they walk against the clock and will simply ignore your post.

Before publishing a photo, think well if it really has significant value for the community, for the platform. What we all want for Steem is to be a space of quality, value, knowledge, sensitivity, originality. If your content points in that direction you can be sure (if you also make proper use of the tags) that the curators will find you and you will see your rewards in your wallet.

@ylich
Greetings to you,
An interesting post here indeed.

Even by doing all of the above continuously one is still not guaranteed that curators will find you. In our case it depends on the country and the time of the post, as we fall way outside normal hours.
All that we can do is to work hard, to post and to hope for the best.
Here is an example of our latest post.

Please be so kind as to have a look at the post and advise if I should do something different to improve the post?
Thank you in appreciation for your time.
Blessings!

Of course is it not guaranteed... But we have to do all to help them reach us and make the want to upvote our post.

I'm not sure if the time zone has some effect on curation, because there are curator all over the world.

Despite the sad story of you post, I think this is a very nice one, with beautiful and interesting pictures. I like it! Congrats!

Thank you for commenting! :-D

Thank you also for the reply my friend.
I will just keep on knocking on the doors.
Blessings!
