Beautiful places
In my room alone breathing
I wander my thoughts for
Beautiful places like my dream,
Like your hands on my thighs,
Like a bird winging across,
A ship berthing with my lover
At the prow her kisses wet
With sea beautiful places like
Old wall clocks with pendulums
& gritty pictures of old fathers
Dressed in starched brocades
& white lace I am listening to
Rihanna asking me to stay
Her voice sinking me deeper
Into the bath & I can see my feet,
The hairy toes peeking at me,
& I know that there are better
places where I can silently fade
to the background & find peace
Beautiful places like a firewood
Throwing sparks, like my dirty
Knees searching through old
Boxes for memories for solace,
Like mama's cooking before,
Like sleep after forgetting.
