Importance Creative Thinking

Creative thinking is the ability to imagine or invent something new. It has the ability to accept change and newness and is the motivation to play with thoughts and possibilities. It is a way of looking at problems or situations from a fresh perspective that suggests un-orthodox solutions and may seem un-settling at first.
Creative thinking is the skill that allows individuals to work through problems and find solutions that others may not have considered. It allows a person to create something or to improve something that already exists.
The difference between Creative thinking and Logical thinking is that Logical thinking has a pre-determined resulted which we can always expect whereas creative thinking gives us results which we may not have expected.
Everyone has the ability to be a creative thinker but they need to have a positive attitude, take time out to think creatively and make a commitment for this. Creative thinking involves an open, relaxed and playful approach. It also involves some risk taking. To think creatively, a person has to think out of the box. Creative thinking is meant to be daring, uninhibited, free-spirited, imaginative and productive.
We need creative thinkers for unlearning that which we have already learnt, solving problems, understanding the consequences of the solutions, preventing situations before they manifest themselves , developing better solutions to already implemented solutions, etc.
The process for creative thinkers is to work hard and continuously improve solutions and ideas. A creative person knows that there is always room for improvement.
Creative thinking is how many ideas and new products have been invented and improved.
Creative thinking has become important in all spheres of life be it the creative arts, business, service industry, manufacturing, tourism etc. We need to constantly innovate and improve the product and services or consumer service and super-cede or at-least match the consumers’ expectations but at the same time be better than the other products, goods or services that are available from competition.
Some examples of current creative thinking which I have personally experienced are:
In cars: The light inside the cars which dim gradually when we lock the car which enables us to recheck if we have left anything behind; The safety belt indicator which is a necessity but we do not use sometimes; the rear ac vent which ensures that passengers seated in the rear to get equal ac as those in the front.
In cricket the LED Bails used during World Cup was a very creative solution that helps the umpire to decide if the batsman is out or not. The camera in the Umpire’s cap is also a very useful innovation.
Inbuilt locks in new age suitcases too is a creative development as it eliminates the troubles of carrying a lock and key when we travel.
Development of various apps and concepts for smartphones, such as payTM for payment of various expenses such as CAB Booking, train tickets etc. too involved creative thinking as to the problems faced in carrying hard cash which can be stolen or lost and is risky. Also many companies such as Flipkart, Snapdeal too are having special sales though their smartphone apps and do not need to advertise in the newspapers or other media as their can now inform people about such sales through their apps and lower advertisement cost.
Edward De Bono is one of the leading authorities on creative thinking which he popularized though his book “Lateral Thinking” and trains people in creative thinking.
If a company or person does not inculcate creative thinking, it will soon be just another face in the crowd and not a leader or futuristic organization that will stand the test of time.
