Creatives as Entrepreneurs

Creative entrepreneurs often find their work deeply rewarding or fulfilling in ways that more traditional business owners do not. This can lead them to place a value on their productions that is incommensurate with what the market expects or will bear.

Rather than financial rewards, a great many creatives prefer to be recognised for their achievements. But before putting your desire for acknowledgement ahead of your financial needs or desires, ask yourself whether you’re creating a false economy. Prosperity and artistic integrity don’t have to be at odds with each other.

At the heart of this issue is an attitude towards prosperity that many creatives struggle with. Intent focus on the bottom line has been — due in large part to the popular image of the struggling (not to say starving) artist — widely misunderstood as a form of ‘selling out’.

If you’re going into business, it’s a good idea to take a long, hard look at your attitude towards wealth. Don’t sacrifice your financial security on the altar of your artistic integrity. Steemit can give you the best of both worlds.
