Hallucinatory Women's Portraits
There are artists who are extremely talented and without a doubt create beautiful pictures, then there are artists who continue to displace the limits of the possible or distort them in this case. Alex Garant is so someone, who after a heart attack, you could say had a revelation.
Kissed by the Muse or just a talent waiting to break out of mediocrity, she has succeeded in creating something exceptionally interesting that has not yet existed or been expressed in this form.
The artist from Toronto describes her works "as somewhere between hallucinatory and psychological." Her style of portraying mostly beautiful women with always several staggered pairs of eyes and two faces "can cause dizziness and even visions. It is the restlessness and movement that makes each image so unique and distorts the viewer's ideal of beauty. I try to make people think through colors and contrasts and get into some kind of conversation with them. "
She explains that after the infarction
"nothing worldly touched me more. When I realized that art meant everything to me, I found much easier time to do what I love. To put aside my fears and doubts was also part of the process and my new attitude to the motto: I have nothing to lose. "
"I try to keep the picture quiet in general, because I like it when this vibrating effect is created solely by the double gaze of women. With my art I would definitely like to enter into a conversation with the viewer, because my pictures should put him in an investigation process, during which his senses hopefully works a little differently than usual. My pictures are trying to give the viewer a thought puzzle to solve. "
Often her images are also brought together with the drug culture due to the hallucinatory effect. In fact, Garant has been clean since 13 years but cannot deny the influences of her life at that time.
"I find it interesting that my work is mostly interpreted in this way. I think that's great. I believe that art is a language of its own. Sometimes it's really hard to express your thoughts with words. And the fantastic part about this process is that the image will always have a different meaning depending on the life experience of the recipient at the other end. "

Halluzinatorischen Frauen-Portraits
Es gibt Künstler die extrem talentiert sind und keine frage schöne Bilder mahlen, dann gibt es Künstler die die Grenzen des möglichen immer weiter verdrängen oder in diesem Falle verzerren. Alex Garant ist so jemand, die nach einem Herzinfarkt, man könnte sagen, eine Offenbarung hatte.
Von der Muse geküsst oder einfach nur ein Talent das darauf wartete aus der Mittelmäßigkeit auszubrechen, ist es ihr gelungen etwas außergewöhnlich interessantes zu erschaffen das es in dieser Form noch nicht gab und damit auszudrücken, und zum denken zu animieren, was sie vorher nicht konnte.
Die Künstlerin aus Toronto beschreibt ihre Werke, „als irgendwo zwischen halluzinatorisch und psychologisch.“ Ihr Stil des Darstellens meist schöner Frauen mit stets mehreren versetzten Augenpaaren und zwei Gesichtern „kann Schwindelgefühle und sogar Visionen verursachen. Es ist die Unruhe und die Bewegung, die jedes Bild so einzigartig macht und das Schönheitsideal des Betrachters verzerren soll. Ich versuche, durch Farben und Kontraste die Leute zum Nachdenken zu bringen und in eine Art Gespräch mit ihnen zu kommen.“
Sie erklärt, dass nach dem Infarkt
„nichts Weltliches mich mehr berührte. Als mir dann klar wurde, dass Kunst mir alles bedeutet, fand ich viel einfacher die Zeit, das zu tun, was ich liebe. Meine Ängste und Zweifel beiseite zu schieben, gehörte ebenso zu dem Prozess und meiner neuen Einstellung nach dem Motto: Ich habe nichts zu verlieren.“
„Ich versuche, das Bild generell ruhig zu halten, da es mir gefällt, wenn dieser vibrierende Effekt einzig und allein von dem doppelten Blick der Frauen erzeugt wird. Mit meiner Kunst möchte ich definitiv auch in ein Gespräch mit dem Betrachter treten, da meine Bilder ihn in einen Untersuchungsprozess versetzen sollen, während dessen seine Sinne hoffentlich ein wenig anders arbeiten als sonst. Meine Bilder sind der Versuch, dem Betrachter ein Gedanken-Puzzle zu geben, das er lösen soll.“
Oft werden ihre Bilder auch in Verbindung mit der Drogen Kultur gebracht aufgrund der halluzinatorischen Wirkung. Tatsächlich ist Garant schon seit 13 jähren clean kann aber die damaligen Einflüsse auf ihr Leben nicht verleugnen.
„Ich finde es aber interessant, dass meine Arbeiten meistens auf diese Weise interpretiert werden. Das finde ich toll. Ich glaube, dass Kunst eine eigene Sprache ist. Manchmal ist es echt schwierig, seine Gedanken mit Worten auszudrücken. Und das Fantastische an diesem Prozess ist, dass das Bild je nach Lebenserfahrung des Empfängers am anderen Ende immer eine andere Bedeutung haben wird.“
