Galentine's Gift Box - 12 February 2025

Yesterday I wrote a post about making a little present for Galentine’s Day. I made a crocheted heart shaped earring.
On 14 February we celebrate St Valentine’s Day when couples give each other tokens of love, but on 13 February many people also celebrate Galentine’s Day or Palentine’s Day, which is a sort of Friendship Day. I actually celebrate my friends any day of the year but having a specific Friendship Day is a nice thought. The origins of this celebration are attributed to a TV programme called Parks and Recreation which I used to watch when I was younger but as I couldn’t recall the specific details of this episode I went to YouTube to check if I could find it :
To make the box above I used a big matchbox I had at home which seemed too good to throw away. In fact, I’ve collected other matchboxes because of the same issue.

The box dimensions are 12cm x 7cm x 3cm.
I’d also recently found this nice looking kitchen towel in the supermarket :

I liked it so much I took the photo below :

Hot chocolate anyone ?
I cut a sheet, folded it, and wrapped it around the matchbox. Sadly I didn’t have any sellotape handy so I just used a bit of masking tape.

I couldn’t get very clean edges so the result’s not great but I can assure you that it looks better in real life :

I kept a little tab that this type of boxes have and made a little slit to ‘anchor’ the earring hook.

I also found some wadding I had left from stuffing a gnome and put it under the earring. I’m not sure I like the wadding that much as it’s not ‘smooth’; I might need to find some cotton wool instead.
I also wrote Happy Galentine's Day on a piece of (scrap) office paper as you can see in the first photo. It’s a totally home-made gift and it shows. You don't need to spend a lot of money to say 'thank you for being my friend'.
I’m aware I still need to make the second earring and it’s not going to be a heart. I’ll make another post to show what I’ve made.
