What is Corona Virus (Covid-19)? What are the symptoms?
Hello to everyone. I want to talk about something that disturbs the agenda today. Emerging in the city of Wuhan, China.
As of now has wrapped around the world.
While it is difficult to find the treatment for the first time the virus is seen, scientists continue to work for antidote.
Corona virus, which entered our lives as a mysterious virus, is known to be a common virus type in animals. The virus has 4 subspecies. While rarely it can be found from animals to humans, this mode of transmission is called "zoonosis". The first examples of Corona virus that can be transmitted from person to person were seen in SARS emerging in 2003 and MERS outbreaks in Saudi Arabia in 2019. The species currently on the agenda is known as a new species that has not been previously identified
This emerging Corona virus species is called "2019-ncov". The first photograph image of the virus in the samples obtained from patients was taken by the electron microscope, published on January 27 by the Chinese diseases control and prevention institution (ccdc). As seen in the photo, a ring covering the surface of the virus is seen. This part is expressed by the word "corona" meaning "crown".
How does the Corona virus kill a person?
The virus most often settles in the lungs after it is transmitted to humans and multiplies there. Since the virus is new, our immune system does not recognize the virus and it is insufficient to resist. In this case, pneumonia develops and patients start to experience respiratory distress as the capacity of the lungs is limited. With the increasing spread of infection, patients are often lost with respiratory failure.
Which people are at risk?
In epidemic cases, of course, not every patient infected with the virus dies, especially social groups with a weak immune system are at life risk if there is an infection. Elderly, children and pregnant women are among the risky groups with low immune system. Also asthma, coah, kidney failure, etc. Those with chronic diseases are also in the risk group. However, according to the first findings in the current new Corona Virus epidemic, people aged 25 and over are more likely to have the disease. The youngest known patient is a 2-year-old Chinese girl.
WHAT ARE THE CORONA VIRUS SYMPTOMS?
Symptoms of the disease are spread over a wide range, ranging from a simple cold to pneumonia. The most common symptoms are high fever, sputum cough, shortness of breath. When we see the symptom, there is no specific symptom that we can directly recognize the disease.
How can people be protected from the Corona virus?
The recommendations of the World Health Organization at the individual level are:
Flu, flu, pneumonia, etc. Close contact with people with the disease should be avoided.
Hands should be washed frequently, especially after contact with sick people.
Avoid contact with wild animals and dead animal corpses in rural areas
When coughing and sneezing, the inside of our elbow should be used to cover the mouth and nose, and if used, hands should be washed.
Infection prevention methods should be applied carefully in hospitals.
Meat products and eggs should be cooked well and eaten
Hand hygiene and respiratory hygiene should be considered in livestock markets or pets.
The contact of the hands with the eyes, mouth and nose should be minimized.
Avoid contact with articles that sick animals come into contact with.
Our citizens in the Far East should not consume unpasteurized milk, meat and meat products.
WHERE CAN I OBTAIN THE RIGHT INFORMATION?
The most accurate information about the current epidemic is published on the website of the World Health Organization day by day. Information on the outbreak is summarized daily in the "status reports" section.
WHO EMERGENCY DECISION
WHO previously declared an emergency in the epidemics of SARS, Avian Influenza (H5N1), Swine Flu (H1N1), Ebola, Zika, polio, decided that it was too early to declare an emergency as a result of the meeting held on January 22nd. Although this issue is also controversial on the international agenda, the arguments that cause not declaring an emergency can be listed as follows:
Mortality rate of new Corona virus outbreak is estimated to be lower than MERS and SARS outbreaks.
Virus transmission rate is not very high. (r0 value is at the level of 1.4-2.5)
It is transmitted from person to person, but its mechanism is not fully understood.
Virus source is not fully known.
Only 25 percent of cases with confirmed disease are at the level of severe infection.
WHO's overall attitude is to minimize commercial restrictions that could have devastating effects.
To avoid the corona virus outbreak, consider these warnings:
1- Wash your hands frequently with soap and water for 20 seconds.
2- Always remind young children about the hygiene rules and have them wash their hands.
3- If water and soap cannot be found, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
4- When coughing or sneezing, cover your mouth and nose with tissue paper, then throw away the tissue.
5- Do not touch your mouth, nose and eyes with dirty hands.
6- Avoid eating from the same plate, sharing the same glass or close contact with patients.
7- Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces such as door handles and toys.
8- If it is necessary to travel to risky areas, wash your hands regularly before and after contact with animals.
9- Avoid contact with sick animals.
10- Do not consume raw or uncooked animal products.
This is all I want to say. I hope it was useful for everyone. Take care of yourself.
