How to handle copyright infringement on Steemit?

in #copyright7 years ago

Recently I came across a couple of posts on Steemit that were quite similar. Actually very similar. They even had the same spelling mistakes, in the title!

Quite similar. The title, content, structure, referenced source, length of each post, grammatical errors. However the wording is not identical. They are not sentence by sentence, word by word copies. But clearly it looks like one copied the other ( or both copied a third).

Copyright is a fundamental right, more or less in place over the entire developed world. While it is clear cut when something is directly copied, this is more of a grey area. The two posts are very similar yet not identical. Is there a copyright infringment here? In cases like this it comes down to judgment. Usually this take place in a courtroom involving lawyers and $1000 legal fees. In this case it is unlikely that this would happen, but how should one handle content that is 'dubious' or 'suspected plagiarism' on Steemit?

I am new to this platform and learning how it works. What I did was to post a reply to the respective authors, and made sure not to upvote. Was that the appropriate thing to do?
