Cool Webpage Wednesday #2 Selling My Old Phone At A Fully Automated Kiosk!

To stay in subject, this week I will also talk about how to make some bucks out of your old stuff. Yeah, you can make some money out of those old cellphones that are collecting dust on top of your desk. I will be moving soon, so I have been trying to get rid of some old stuff that I do not use anymore. When I saw that I had 4 old iPhones sitting on my desk, I decided it was time to do something about it. Since I always buy used phones (maybe sometime I'll write a post on why). I thought, hmm, maybe I can make a couple of bucks out of these.
In total they were:
- One iPhone 4
- One iPhone 4s
- One iPhone 5s
- One iPhone 5c
Looking for options, I found Gazelle. With them you can sell pretty much any old smartphone. It's super easy. You just tell them the model and describe the condition, and they quote them right there for you. After quoting them, you can choose to print a shipping tag, and send them for free! But that was not the case with me =(... Hahaha. Since I had two very old phones (the 4 and 4s), I needed to go to one of their kiosks. I looked online and they have them all over the place, in malls and that sort of public places. I saw that I had one of them pretty close, so I decided to go.
When I got there, I got surprised when I saw the kiosk. It is fully automated! You tell it the kind of port your phone has, and some sort of chamber opens up to let you plug it in with the cable. Then it closes up, analysis the characteristics, and condition of your phone. Immediately after, it quotes it for you. If you accept the price then it asks you for an oficial ID, and asks to take a picture of you. This is for safety reasons, in order to avoid the selling of stolen phones. And offers to give you the cash or deposit another phone. I wish I had taken pictures of it!
After I had deposited all my phones, I took the cash, and left! In the end it was not a lot, but it was something. I got 80 fabulous dollars... Also, a plus about the kiosk, is that on the side it has a bin where you can throw away all kind of old accessories and they will make sure to recycle accordingly. So now you know, you can make some dough if you sell your old, dust collecting, phones.
