Is Steemit just for techies?

Where are all the real life opinion pieces? I'm a techie, but I like variety on the sites I read, which is why I haven't posted here for a while. It seemed that people just wanted me to post techie articles or articles about their product or crypto.

Yes, that 's one way of getting coin, but it's not really my voice is it?

Do people still follow writers they like? Listen to their voice? Or is this the age of such instant gratification that we simply skim a post and if it's not what we want to hear we ignore it.

I fear that healthy debate is gone. In the 'old days' in debate team you often had to debate the side you didn't really believe in, which was wonderful, because it made you really research the opposite side in order to create a convincing point of view. one people would resonate with - so you could WIN!

That side has gone away, now you listen to people that say what you want to hear, and simply deride the other side with complaints of them being pick a label.

Opinions can no longer be expressed and listened to - they must be the 'right' opinion - or you must change your opinion to fit the crowd you are with. It's no longer seems to be a 'conversation' - it seems to be much more of a mob.

I miss having an opinion I can voice, without derision, and with healthy, non- judgemental, adult discussion.

The world is changing. So is the 'conversation'.
