For the Love of Comments. Win 100 SP delegation for a month.

It’s been a few months since I ran this contest. Let's be honest, I've only run it twice. I took a break for several reasons, but it's always been on the agenda to come back. I'll just give a bit of background as to what started it and why I'm doing it again now.

When I first started on Steem I landed in interesting times. They weren't the times where you could earn thousands with the right curation, that was well and truly over, but curie and blocktrades votes were getting posts up to and sometimes over the $100 mark. Then we had a glitch where SBD shot up in value and because it’s default exchanged one to one with post value, converting it at the market tripled the amount of Steem you could buy and I hit 500 SP in no time. The value of Steem and SBD fluctuated at high levels for a while and my upvote was doing great at supporting new accounts and rewarding interaction.

I was positive and excited to be able to grow my account while supporting newcomers to grow their's. Then the price of Steem just kept dropping. My support felt like it was getting more and more pathetic no matter how much my SP grew and I felt like I couldn't do much to help others. @abh12345 suggested that as small accounts we should look up. If we do so much to help others that we don't build our own accounts, then we'll never be in a position to help others. Shortly after this I came across @tcpolymath (Tim) and his @themesopotamians project, which I was accepted into. It was a project to make dolphins and as we graduated through the ranks we were asked to do a project of our own to help others, in order to upgrade. The accounts couldn't give huge upvotes, but the coming together of such positive people and goals helped to motivate me to keep trying. My upgrade project was the “For the Love of Comments” contest. This was in part inspired by @mattclarke, who is a great supporter of interaction. Without the interaction why would we bother to be here?

Shortly after my first winner was selected HF20 hit us. It hit the small accounts the hardest and this is a blow that Tim really took hard. It undermined what he was doing and he has scaled everything back. We still get support from him, but the project is no longer growing like it once was. It knocked the stuffing out of a lot of steemians and my feed has never quite been as active since. Then Steem just kept dropping and my upvote value with it. At 1000 SP and climbing I was barely making a non dust vote at 100%.

I decided to take a break from the contests for a bit and keep building my own account, but I still can't help trying to encourage and support others.

Another little project I started experimenting with just before HF20 was seeing if I, as a minnow, could do anything to help support a redfish. @nonsowrites agreed to be my guinea pig, thank you Nonso. He had worked really hard and now has a couple of big delegations. I can't claim to have had any influence in that, he earned it, and I could never really help him with big upvotes, but I hope my continued support helped keep him going along with a few others who kept him motivated. So can a minnow help to support other accounts? I think so, but maybe Nonso is the best one to answer that question.

I've decided that now is a good time to offer another delegation up. A couple of things have motivated me. One is @steevc's 10k minnows push. He's getting us brainstorming ways to help get more people up to minnow status and keep them there. The post and all the comments are worth a read because there are lots of ideas for redfish to help themselves.

The other thing that has put me in a position where I feel I can spare a bit of SP is getting awarded a delegation from mattclarke for participation in a tag he is promoting. If you like The Simpsons it's worth a look and considering participating. The chance to snag a delegation which will last the rest of the year is still available.

Continuing along the lines of small users helping themselves, @contestkings is a useful resource. They publish a list of verified contests daily. So it's worth checking in to see what’s up for grabs each day.

and now for your chance to win a delegation for a month

So now that I've finished boring you all to death with my Steem life story, I'll tell you how to win a 100 SP delegation. Keeping it along the theme of 10k minnows, I'd like the delegation to go to someone with less than 500 SP. So leave me a comment telling me why you want to become a minnow or nominate a redfish you think should be a minnow and why. I will also be giving out dustsweeper prizes to entries I like and I usually like all entries. ;D

Update: @mattclarke has, once again, generously offered to match my delegation. So the winner will get 200 SP

Good on you :)

Last year was pretty tough and the above is a saddening read at times. Hopefully those that stuck around will reap the rewards and that you find an account deserving of a boost.

It was a tough year. It was sad to see a few projects fall by the wayside, some of which were prompted by Tim's project. I hope this minnow push encourages a few redfish. There have been so many accounts that have powered back down to redfish status after getting disillusioned since the hardfork. Hopefully the ones that have powered through are here to stay.

I think whoever has held on this past year should be a fairly solid bet to stick around. I see some light at the end of the tunnel :)

Great initiative. I'll be happy to throw in another 100 SP delegation over the same period. Just let me know the winner.

His Matt, the winner is teutonium.

Done. Let me know when you pull it :)

Thank you Matt. I'll try to remember the date.

Well, I do believe a minnow can help a redfish grow. In those early days when I did not get noticed by many feedback from people like yourself helped me stay consistent. Sometimes it's not all about upvotes. Genuine interest counts. I have a project of my own which will kickstart soon--making a minnow each month. Unfortunately, it has to wait because I need to power down some of my steem to sell. Need to cover some personal issues. But that will be over in 3-4 weeks and hopefully, I will get it started

Sounds like you've got an ambitious project planned. Looking forward to it. Should always take care of yourself first, though. It's my biggest hope that as the middle classes grow more people will be able to use that steem earnt when they need to.

Steem-Lagos meet up isn't really a personal issue. I know that's why you powering down. @nonsowrites

Well, something came up as well, so I need to raise funds for that. Chances are it might be postponed. But I'm not ruling out the meet up just yet. I'm currently working on my funding proposal for fundition to raise 200steem for the meetup. If I can achieve that then it will hold as planned

Posted using Partiko Android

I really hope it holds. I don't why even when I won't be there.

Posted using Partiko Android

Also like I mentioned in one of my previous post. You will get the delegation after the power-down which should last 2-3weeks. The one-month duration still stands.

Thank you so much. You are just beautiful.

I note the graceful beauty of the gazebo and patio in your picture. Is that your place? If so, I must commend you on the peaceful environment you have undertaken to reside in. Such blessings are of more value than any wealth.

Thanks!

The picture is from the Adelaide botanical gardens. It's a lovely, tranquil spot in the city centre and free to enter too. We don't visit as much as we used to as we live further away from the city now, but it was a favourite spot when we were closer.

Hi @minismallholding! Well, I'm a redfish atm, 50SP away from becoming a minnow!

Why I want to be a minnow? Well, tbh I want to be a dolphin and not a minnow xD Mainly because I want to get more exposure for my posts! I want to debate with crypto enthusiasts all around the blockchain, I want engagement! That's what I want, and so far what I see is that dolphins get much more engagement on their posts. Bidbot users also get lots of engagement, but I told myself I would never use a bidbot and I intend to stick to my plan... I would rather power the STEEM up, get a SBI and help someone else or lease some STEEM...

When I become a minnow myself I'll help out anyway I can in turning more redfishes into minnows and minnows into dolphins, that's what we all should strive for! There are two types of people, the ones who grow and push others down, and the ones who grow and push the other up with them, I want to be one who pushes others up!

Thank you for putting yourself forward. Good to see such a positive mindset getting so close to minnowhood. This is certainly what we want to see moving forward.

Hi friend👋🏻😊 Thanks for this initiative! I want to nominate a friend from Venezuela: @zaidagrilli she joined few days ago, take a look at her nice art👀 I'd be glad if you consider to delegate to her account please. Thanks in advance💞

Posted using Partiko Android

Thank you for nominating @zaidagrilli. She'll definitely be up for consideration. It's promising that she'll also have your support to learn the ropes here.

Thank you so much!😊👼💖

If I powerdown am I eligible? :p

100sp doesn't just let someone have a heavier vote, it also grants additional resource credits for increased ability to interact with Steem dapps!

Posted using Partiko Android

Lol! You're not going to be able to power that much down in time!

The resource credits are certainly a high hurdle in the early days. So hard too build an account if you can barely interact.
