The Winner of the Comment Contest: What is your favorite street food? (@oredebby)

Hi, Steemheads!

Another week has come and gone, thus another weekly comment contest is over and of course, a new one starts. Before we move on to the new one, let us celebrate the success of the recently concluded contest and declare our winner!

As usual, I had a hard time because I am a street food monster myself and I love all the food that was posted. Even if I was not familiar with the other foods from other countries but when I saw the pictures, they were like something I would love, too.

Since I am a Filipino, I am familiar with all Filipino streetfoods and I can't say no to any of them, except of course, those that I am allergic to like quids, octopuses and those seashell kinds. I love all streetfoods as long as they are not those things mentioned. At home, I am fond of making fishballs, because my mom is fond of paksiw, it's a Filipino fish dish that the kids do not like. HAHAHA! So, when she cooks paksiw, the next day she will fry them. Yeah, my mom recycles dishes and probably all other moms do. I find it weird that paksiw will be recycled to fried fish the next day. So, what I do is wake up too early when I am not lazy and stuff all the leftover paksiw into a blender, put garlic, onions, salt and pepper and blend it. Then I take it out the blender and mix it with flour and water as the batter for the fish ball. Then I fry them like regular fish balls. The kids love them with a homemade, sweet and sour sauce or just the sweet style tomato ketchup when I'm lazy. No more leftovers and yes, I do not bother to get the fishbone. Hahaha!

The Winner:

Why this? Because I love how organic her choice of street food is. Fried plantain and yam with fish sauce. Other than that, she has researched the nutritional value of these foods and guess what, most of us do not care about nutritional value of street foods. We do not even care that eggs have very high cholesterol values and we eat loads of eggs, kwek-kwek, tokneneng, balut in many pieces. I am chronically ill and I know very well how diet plays an important role in one's health. I want people to realize that we need to be conscious of our diet. Always consider eating healthy and eat in moderation the foods that are inorganic or unhealthy to the body if you cannot avoid them for good.
