Felipe II construyó el monasterio de El Escorial o Monasterio de San Lorenzo el Real, para conmemorar la victoria en la batalla de San Quintín, ocurrió el 10 de agosto de 1557, en la festividad de San Lorenzo, y posteriormente se convirtió en la residencia de la familia real española y en su lugar de sepultura.
Felipe II built the Monastery of El Escorial o Monastery of San Lorenzo El real, for commemorate the victory in the Battle of San Quintín, it happended on August 10, 1557, on the feast of San Lorenzo, and then it became the residence of Spanish Royal Family and their burial place
