What do you guys think?? Bacteria that is responsible for human conscience?

So science has surprised me once more. Recently in January a study was published that states that bacteria a long time ago fused its genetic codes with ours. This code is alive and working today in our brains and is what helps our sells send genetic information from cell to cell and is made up of this virus like capsule which is why they believe a virus could have injected its genetic code into our own.
In all sense, this does make sense to me. Virus's steal our cells and inject there DNA into ours which is how they replicate themselves and is why it makes us sick, but sometimes has no effect. In this article they state that on rare occasions when the DNA is useful it stays permanently in our genetic code. On top of that, this article cites a study in 2016 that says that 40-80% of the human genome came from virus's. Theres a lot more to this so I suggest you read this article!
My thoughts on this is honestly, WOW!! If this is in fact true it supports the idea that the beginning of complex things have a simple meaning! Not saying it's a simple concept! Just saying that understanding where these complex structures derive from could have simple explanations! Thinking deeper, its crazy to think how the human genetic code is built off lots and lots of genes that came from virus's. What are the odd's we had a virus that gave us conscience! True probability in the universe!!!

What if we weren't introduced to this virus? Would we have not gained the ability to think and have awareness the way we have right now? What other functions of the brain are caused by virus insemination? Could we use virus's to enhance the human genome our selves? And if we could is it ethical? Since this is the first one I am going to leave it at that!!
