Self Acceptance, Self Love, Self Confidence

in #confidence7 years ago (edited)

Everyone could always be entirely mistaken. So pretending it's only other people who go through life based upon their assumptions is ludicrous. But sometimes others will pretend this, in order to test your confidence. You will encounter people who try to get you to ADJUST your assessments based upon uncertainty rather than based upon your experience. They will try to make you question your assessment of a situation and your own ability to assess a situation. "Hey now, you're making some assumptions there." And of course you are. Because everything other than "I AM" is very much an assumption. Everything is assumption.

Of course i'm not gonna change my personality every time someone pretends it's just me making assumptions rather than all of us always. We all make assumptions in every moment about everything. It's how we go through life, based upon our best guess. (I assume)

Although there is no such thing as certainty, nobody has a responsibility to destroy his/her own self confidence and second guess themselves in what they experience. That kind of second guessing and self doubt is just weakness. It's not humility. There is no reason to doubt yourself until you have evidence you're mistaken in the assessment you made that was based upon your experiences.

If doubting oneself and one's experience, if eroding one's own confidence were encouraged, If people did that, nobody would ever say or do anything with confidence. How it works when you have self confidence is that you live and when mistaken you learn. And it is good to learn from our mistakes. Doing that is helpful, and that is what humility is. When it's clear you screwed up, you admit it, and adjust. It takes care of itself.

Should you apologize for being wrong? Sure if you want---but i'll say this. It's way more important that when you find you're wrong you ADJUST. Often people apologize but fail to adjust and that's worthless. Actions do speak louder than words so even just adjusting when shown to be wrong speaks very loudly about your character.

However, a habit of assuming you are mistaken just because there's no such thing as certainty isn't humility. It erodes your confidence, and isn't helpful. To love and accept yourself means you trust yourself, knowing that you will be mistaken sometimes.

It's not about being perfect. It's about being willing to admit, at least to yourself, when you're wrong, and ADJUSTING when you are wrong. But that's an entirely different thing than being frozen in self-doubt, assuming you are wrong in advance, second-guessing and hesitating from a lack of confidence, betraying (in your insecurity) all the lessons taught you by experience. So trust what you perceive, act based upon your assessment until you have an actual reason not to---a reason other than 'nothing is certain.'

When others test you on this, stand your ground, IN THE MOST LOVING, MATURE, RESPECTFUL AND RELAXED WAY YOU CAN. Have a spine. Don't be pushed around or walked upon. If you cave and adjust in betrayal of your own honest perceptions, nothing good will come from that level of weakness. Never leave your center, your own core, merely on the possibility you like anyone, always, might be mistaken.

Wait until you find that you are wrong before you adjust. Eroding your self confidence needlessly, never a good choice, is an error that could use some adjustment. If you don't yet see that it's not a good choice, I assume you won't be able to 'unhear' all I just said. So when you do finally see that until shown to be wrong, doubting yourself is worthless, make the adjustment and refuse to do that anymore.
