What thoughts do you have about audiences?

Unfortunately, many business people--even at higher levels--feel a paralyzing sensation.

You and others are likely to avoid audiences. You turn down speaking engagements, within your organization and in the community.

While you are doing that, some of your colleagues--whose ideas might not even be as creative as yours--move to the forefront because they are willing to speak to groups. In fact, they even seek speaking opportunities.

WHAT AUDIENCES ARE REALLY LIKE
No, audiences are not highly critical, eager to find fault with your content and delivery.

The real situation:

Audiences want you to succeed. Why? Because all of us have seen that when a speaker flops the audience becomes just as uncomfortable as the presenter. Note this: Audience members are not critics, they are your cheerleaders!

Audiences don't expect perfection. So what if you say "uh" a few times. So what if you stammer trying to get some words out. So what if you seem to lose your place for a few seconds. Well get this--audiences prefer the real you "warts and all" instead of a robotic speaker who sounds impersonal.

Audiences are tolerant and willing to forgive blunders. That's what I just said above, and I am repeating for emphasis.

Audiences are glad you are speaking. They are glad because that means they are not speaking!

Accept this positive, receptive, supportive view of audiences. . .and you will make a giant step toward controlling your stage fright.
