STEEMIT STORY CONTEST: PARENTAL SELFLESSNESS
There lived a man named Edison whose only son was living in a city which was miles away from their house. Edison decided to go to the city to see him, so he went to the place from which he used to receive his son’s letters. Edison knocked the door excitedly but unfortunately, the person opening the door was not his son. “Is not my son Jude living here?”, asked Edison. No, he has already moved, replied the person at the door. Disappointed, Edison was about to leave, but a neighbor approached him and said, “Are you looking for Jude? This is his office address”. Edison thank her and headed to his son’s office.
At the reception desk, he inquired, “can you please tell me the location of Jude in this office? I am his father”. “Please wait”, replied the receptionist, dialing on the phone.
A moment passed seem like eternity.
Tears streamed down his cheeks as Edison saw his son. Jude was happy to see his father. They simply talked with an air of awkwardness, then Edison askes, “my son, can you come home for a day? You have been away for a long time. We miss you … “No father, I just cannot do such a thing. I am so busy working that I cannot possibly leave my work!”. Edison just simply smiled, “Then I will be going back to our village this evening.” You can stay with me for few days, said Jude. No, son, you are busy with your work. An old man like me would become a burden for you, replied Edison.
Some time passed and Edison felt bad for how he treated his father, so he took a leave to visit his childhood home and meet his father. When he got home, his parents were not there. He was shocked and asked the neighbor, “what happened here? My parents have to be there. Where are they now?”; the neighbor gave him the address of the place where his parents were living, he went there with Usain speed and tears filled his eyes because the place was like a graveyard. Jude father waved to him and they both hugged briefly.
Edison asked, how are you? I did not expect that you would come to this place. Jude got his wrongs and made him kept his head low in shame. What is wrong son? Did something happened, asked Edison. No father, it is just that I never knew I would see you in such a place. Edison smiled and said, I had taken a loan to pay for your college, then again when you wanted a car. Eventually, the loans piled up and I could not afford to repay them, so I remained silent because I did not want to burden you with this problem and this resulted to sale of our home and farm to repay the loans.
Jude whispered to his father that he could have told him about it but with a smile his father responded, “no son, you were very busy and stressed with your work. I just want you to be happy, so I kept quiet”. Jude was sobbing uncontrollably and hugged his dad, “I had no idea father, please forgive me”. Edison smiled and said, hey there is no need or that. I am happy with what I have got now, all I want is that you spare some time for your mom and I, we love you very much, and at this old age it is hard to travel to see you often.
Parents will always be there and give everything they could just to make you happy, but we usually take them for granted and do not appreciate what they do for us until it is too late. When you find a path of success in your life, carry on, but do not leave your parents behind as they are the true reason for your success.
