Bloodshot Rebooted
It is no surprise that Bloodshot was given a reboot in the fall of 2018 due to a motion picture getting set to hit theaters next month. The same guy who voiced Marvel's Groot will be playing Valiant's superhero. As a matter of fact, Bloodshot is one of Valiant Comics' most popular stories. Bloodshot: Rising Spirit # 1 reintroduces fans (or soon-to-be fans) to the super soldier's origin. Kevin Grevious brings us a masterful script that coincides with the wonderful storytelling of Zac Thompson and Lonnie Nadler. The colorwork of Diego Rodriguez just jumps off the pages augmenting the amazing artwork of Ken Lashley. Let's not forget the finishing touches added by Ryan Winn, Brian Thies and Oliver Borges.
Angelo Mortalli is experiencing some financial difficulties. Don Carlo tells him of his plans to move up in the organization. However, this doesn't come without a price. Unfortunately, paying that price landed Mortalli in Rikers Island Penitentiary. While there, Bobby Dee ends up with Mortalli's position within the organization and his girlfriend. It was while sitting in prison that Project Rising Spirit, known for their production of "advanced weaponry and scientific innovation," intervenes and experiments on erasing his past and creating a robot that is built on a nanoscale.
Much of the action in this book take place within Mortalli's head as scientists attempt to implant fake memories. Realizing that in order to achieve success, the scientists must keep returning to the drawing board chalking up casualties along the way. It will be great to have another comic book company enter the cinematic universe. This is especially true of the Bloodshot story because of the complex issues that can enter into the director's hands.
