Favorite classic SNL skits
SNL= Saturday Night Live or as i like to call it "a show that used to be funny and therefore people actually watched it."
Back in the day, like around the time that Will Ferrell was on the show or before that, SNL was known as a spot for new emerging talent, and virtually everyone that was accepted to the show ended up moving on to bigger and better things. If you saw a movie with a hilarious comedian in it circa the 80's to 90's, there is a better than average chance at least one of the stars of said film came from SNL.
So here are my favorite skits (some recurring, some not) from back in "the day"
Church Lady
The Church Lady was played by Dana Carvey and she would have guests on her "show" in order to expose how evil they were. Her catchline of "Well isn't that special?" invaded almost all aspects of life and using it on anyone would indicate their story / explanation was stupid. Whever, it was a great skit
Deep Thoughts
Although it never featured any actors it was voiced over by Kevin Nealon - who never really went on to do very much career-wise. "The Deep Thoughts - by Jack Handy" offered topics to thing about or absurd advice such as..
Sprockets
A lot of SNL's material was fake talk shows and this was a good one that I guess was poking fun at Germans. I suppose some overly sensitive people would find it offensive but perhaps we all had thicker skin and less access to social media back then.
"Dieter" (played by Mike Myers) was the West German host of the show and his guest would simply be bizarre and the entire skit was just taking German art culture to an extreme. Whatever, find out for yourself, it was hilarious
Chippendale's competition
This unfortunately was not a recurring skit and was a preposterous dance-off to get a spot with the Chippendale's between an extremely fit Patrick Swayze and well, Chris Farley.
You will laugh at this one. I can only imagine that someone would be complaining and start a go fund me because this video was suggesting that fat dudes can't be sexy despite the fact that the skit was (while jokingly) portraying precisely the opposite.
Celebrity Jeopardy
Mostly focusing on Alex Trebek and Sean Connery (played by Will Ferrel and Darrell Hammond) this skit was about the actual show and made fun of the fact that the celebrity guests didn't always play by the rules and were generally quite dumb.
The "guests" would rarely get anything right, and would normally have disdain for the rules and (Connery especially) disdain for the host, Alex.
These are the ones that would always make me happy if they were included in the show. I still laugh when i see them today even though I am quite certain I have seen all of them.
Do you have any SNL favorites? I'd like to hear about them if you do. Or even better, if you can point out something that is funny about today's SNL (because I find it so unfunny that I don't even bother watching it) I'd like to know about that as well.
Truly saying, I have not watched SNL ever in my life. But After reading about it, I found Chippendale's competition to be funny and much entertaining. But I am a fan of watching Ellen show, That's quite entertaining and funny too. Keep up with such interesting content.
