Colourful Garlands
Hello
My entry for today's #colourfulphotography is "Colourful Garlands" a contest by @juliank
When visiting Thailand you will see these colourful garlands everywhere, for sale at the local markets and traffic lights, hanging from a review mirror of a car, at shrines and business premises.
The Thai garland is known locally as "Phuang Malai" and are made daily from freshly cut flowers. Basically they are a symbol of luck and respect. There are 2 ways to wear a garland, either round the neck or to be worn as a bracelet.
Garlands are used for many purposes:
They are hung in the review mirror of a car for luck, so that the may reach their destination safely.
They are offered at Buddhist statues as a way of paying respect.
Offered to monks to show respect.
Offered to spirit houses to stay on the right side of the ancestors
Brides and grooms wear them at weddings
Offered to important visitors.
Businesses use them, to attract luck and keep the business successful.
These photos are mine, taken with my fujifilm camera.
