I always plant something at the same level it is in the pot I got it in. If planting cuttings that you rooted, deep enough for the new roots to be covered and the stem to be stable but don't bury the stem completely. Mine stay in the ground all year round but then again, I don't get snow. Most people with foul winters keep their plants in pots and bring them indoors over winter
